Is that a fish?

MEDIUM: watercolour
LOCATION: Rethymnon, in Crete

The adult shown in this picture is that father of the toddler with the green bucket. The search for little fishes attracted the attention of two unrelated toddlers who were keen to join in. The composition of the group then attracted the attention of the artist, Leslie Macdonald. This is the result.

Pansarole Men

MEDIUM: wax pencil on cartridge paper, 2025 tap/click to zoom
LOCATION: Apricale, Liguria, Italy

The artist’s eye was caught by these three men sitting on a low wall above the village square during the annual La Sagra della Pansarola, an autumn festival in which huge numbers of small doughnuts (pansarole) are fried by the village women in giant vats of hot oil set out in the square of the medieval hilltop village of Apricale, in the foothills of the Maritime Alps. The pansarole are then freely distributed to those who watch on, accompanied by hot zabaglione. The occasion includes a religious procession through the streets and the village brass band playing in the square as darkness falls. Brilliant!

Soldier with Child

MATERIAL: wax pencil on cartridge paper, 2025 tap/click to zoom
LOCATION: Iraq

This drawing is inspired by a image captured by a war photographer during the 2nd Iraq War. It shows an American GI carrying an injured child from the aftermath of a bomb explosion. The original photograph has been re-interpreted by FA Productions’ resident portrait artist, Leslie Macdonald. Sadly, the child died while in the soldier’s arms.
